When You Detach Yourself From Success, You Free Yourself
Updated: Mar 2
"It's all a learning process. You've got to learn from the experience, the battles you go through. Some guys continue to grow. Hopefully, that's what I'll continue to do." - Paul Pierce
So many of us are OBSESSED with success, that we will literally run ourselves dry of all our energy, relationships, money etc. to try and get this gold metal of success. I get that this is a society based condition on all of us, that we were taught to compete and try to succeed over everyone else (this comes from a lack mentality and just not thinking you are good enough as you currently are, and so many other blocks), but we are doing it all wrong! Instead of asking yourself at the end of the day: "Did I succeed?" Or thinking that just because you failed at something, it means that you're not good enough, you didn't do your best, your idea is a flop etc. We have to start to switch this term around, because then it makes sense why we chase success if that is the only question in our minds at the end of the day. What we need to start to do WHETHER YOU SUCCEED OR FAIL, start asking yourself: "Did I grow and learn from this experience?"
"A failure is not a loss. It's a gain. You learn. You change. You grow." - Michael Barata
It will completely shift your perspective on how you are doing in life and what ACTUALLY should matter to you! You will also leave all doubt, worries and fear behind because now it's no longer about making something succeed in your life, but LEARNING AND GROWING in that area of your life. We are then more open to taking a risk and failing or succeeding, as the question at the end of our days are: "Did I learn and grow from this?" ~ YES! ~ AMAZING! This is why we are put on this planet, to continuously learn and grow through every single experience we are given! To make yourself into a better human being at the end of the day. Now, I know some of you may be wondering: "Well, if I don't concentrate on succeeding than how do I know I will succeed?" It doesn't matter, plain and simple.
What should matter is your growth and learning development and I can tell you that most of the time when you don't obsess over the success, it will just naturally come to you because you aren't making it about that. You are making it about your personal growth, you're making it about developing yourself into a better you thus succeeding regardless, since you are concentrating on growing and learning. It's a whole mind shift and different way of looking at success, since it takes the pressure off of achieving it the most perfect way ever and making it more about you and your growth.
"You learn so much from taking chances, whether they work out or not. Either way, you can grow from the experience and become stronger and smarter." - John Legend
Go ahead and try it out, instead of asking yourself: "Did I succeed?!" Ask yourself: "Did I learn and grow through this experience?" & see what comes to you.
